Here is a transcript from a very special meeting held in October 2010 in Lewes, Sussex. 8 Representatives of the Maya, Mapuche and Bolivian elders came to speak with us about their teachings for 2012. They spoke of commuinity, personal responsibility, natural healing and much more, and here there teachings are available to you also. We are running seed groups here is Sussex, to help communities work together, heal together and live together, and invite you to visit our website, and to read these teachings and make them your own. Representative of the Mara – m’pouche – Earth People. Message from the heart of the south and Central American peoples hearts, via the representatives of the Elders , representing all tribes, to the indigenous peoples of the British Isles.

This gentleman came with his grandson, and is 115 years old. He looks less than 70.
It took his tribe 6 years to convince him to come to Europe to the people of these lands.

‘We have come to these lands from very far away. In all my age I never thought I could come. I am 115 years old. In all my life I never left my town before.

I go to the trees and the plants and I ask them for some of their life. I acknowledge them as my brothers and I treat them with respect and dignity. They have heart and soul. In this way, I carry myself with a tall heart.

I am healthy and well. I have no sickness. Ask the plants and trees for their life. We are all related to our environment. There is no difference in colour and form as long as the spirit is the same.’

When I was small, I looked around me at nature, and I could understand there was life in things. Something bigger than me. Energy. The plants knew it and saw it, the trees knew it. The same energy I could perceive went through and nourished all things. So I used to go to the trees and plants and nature and ask for some of its energy. In this way, I kept myself well. I have no sickness because of this help.

Pachamama is the mother that takes care of you and I, gives life to all things. When we speak of Mother Earth, we speak of God.

All of us must love each other as one person. We are all the same.

The children have to learn and feel the love of the earth, the rivers and the valleys must become one. The care of the planet must be there for them for ever.

In my town we unite in a big house with lots of people and this shows we are family. The heads (Elders) come together and we sing of how we can best honour the earth.

In our culture we don’t like to discard our children. We don’t discard them. We involve them in decisions. We make sure their voices are heard.

The white hairs of our elders are testament to their years of knowledge and wisdom, and proof they have lived.
Our Mayan teachings show us how to work together as community and family. Our grandfathers always taught us to love each other, respect each other and treat each other as family because from this stems our love of the stars, the volcanoes and all that stems from Mother Earth. This source of spirituality is where we will learn to grow and create the harmony between people. Before we had nothing. No schools. The Government was there to oppress us. But we got together, the Elders, and people decided to create what we needed and now we have schools. We have a rich community. We have our calendar. Our Mayan calendar is sacred. It guides us. It teaches us and it shows us every day what to do. We know what to do every day. The calendar serves this purpose. In our harvest season we kneel and say thank you.

I have no formal education in a school but from the age of 40 I have been involved in three projects. A school, electricity and drinkable water. I have known poverty all my life. I have travelled South for work and I learnt that we are all one. We are all one people and I receive love from you as I do from the earth, the stars and the volcanoes. There is one, one life, one love, one heart, our Mother Earth.

Questions and Answers:

Question: How do you grow so old and wise?

Answer:
Science gives us technology. Experience gives us wisdom. Within the Elders there exists both the past and the present and within this an Elder can orientate their life. The Mayan way teaches us to approach things with respect. To give things the dignity that a thing rightly deserves, be that thing a stone, a tree, a bird, a plant, a spider, a star or a man. Our Elders are moving, living encyclopaedias. They know where they have come from. They know their own history. They know the history of their people and of their land. They know the history of the stars, of the moon and the sun and the planets. There are Elders who know the name of every tree, every valley and every forefather in our tradition. In the Mayan way there is a tradition of passing on knowledge. It is a living history. Our history is alive in us and we remember. There are Grandfathers who walk amongst us who know how to navigate throughout the planet and throughout the stars. See, this is how we have come here to meet with you all today. This is how our people have maintained their knowledge and history.

Question: What stories underlie your culture and help you become wise in your elderhood?

Answer: (Answered by the Mapuche Elders)
I grew with wheat, vegetables and meat. I understood in the mountain there was life and this life was part of my life. I understood that there was something greater than us. The mountains and plants have the best medicine. They have everything within them. It can transcend young and old and it will always be there. I am Wai-Sata from the Indigenous School of Bolivia.


Healing – From the Indigenous School of Bolivia.

There are many ways of healing but the Maya have their own indigenous practices. Just as we have to feed the body we have to understand that we have to feed the spirit. Sometimes we wish to stick to the material but in order to heal we have to open perception. We have to get rid of that which closes perception and sometimes it is the material that can close perception but also equally it can be the material, the body, that leads us through the mind to the soul to open perception. Songs are great healing. We have a song and it is a healing song. It is a song to open your body and your mind to your soul and your perception. These are the words and these words can change and move and adapt energy.

“Go bye yey”


This is a healing song. It can open your perception. It can help you see things. You may sing it to the trees and they will sing it back to you. Even trees, perhaps especially trees, understand these things. The duty of a healer is to open hearts and to cure. There is a great system that is part of a great machine that enables us to see what is in each one’s heart. We teach this to our children. It is very simple but it is true.

Exercise ( gifted by Freddie) :

Place your hands together, both hands, with your fingertips touching. Think of something that has made you deeply sad and be aware of what you are feeling. Think of something that has made you deeply happy and go into that feeling. Open your perception to your feelings. Perceive them. Sit in them. Feel your own energy.

How can we heal the world if you cannot even heal yourself? You must practice this exercise to understand it. To understand balance. To find harmony and to heal your past in this moment.

In terms of drumming. A drum can bring balance. A drum is one heartbeat. It is a cycle. If we can rid ourselves of the things that make us ill we will be able to open to a higher perception. If something brings you balance, if it gets you results, then it is OK. If something brings you faith in life, helps you be coherent in life, then this is OK. We hope these things we give with our heart are received with your heart. This is the only way these seeds can grow. We must encounter ourselves as brothers upon this earth. There is so much we want to say to you and there is so little time.

We bring a message from the Ancestors. From those much older than ourselves. Please, my brothers and sisters, the people of the Maya, the people of Bolivia, the people of Central America, speak to your heart. Please hear us. We must change. We are taking things to the cliff, to the very edge. We must work in our environment. We are not separate to our environment. If we open our perceptions we will find ourselves to be all brothers of one Mother Earth. To let go of inhibitions we have already begun a form of self-healing because a life of pressure and strain will lead us to a loss of balance and towards sickness. Mayan healing is both physical and spiritual. It requires a ritual, medicinal plants according to your nagual. According to your nagual, so will be the medicine you can work with. We have to base ourselves on what the Mayan calendar says for the day of working. We are all components of energy. Each one of us is energy. A microcosm which if it is out of balance affects the whole environment around you. So you see, you have a responsibility to keep yourself well. If you yourself are not well you are out of balance and you will negatively affect the environment and the people around you. For example, depression is like a fungus and it eats away not just at the people experiencing its power but at the environment surrounding that person. You must keep yourself well. It is your responsibility. You cannot heal others and help them into balance if you yourself are sick. Therefore, it may require external forces to be balanced. Perhaps even the environment in order to help you. Ritual helps to reconnect you with the outside – the exterior world. Today in the Mayan calendar is a day of three rings for example and this makes it a ideal day for healing. It is a day for purification with water.

Question: How do we overcome the corruption of the Government?

Answered by the Mayan Elders:
The calendar is more than sacred. It will relate to you the progressive destruction of humanity. This has been happening for quite sometime. Human intelligence has been breaking balance and tearing apart the sacred. All that is living is sacred. Humanity itself is provoking this eclipse. It is not new or hidden that the Government has been conducting several nuclear tests and creating imbalance and disrupting the natural order of nature. If we work to hurt ourselves we may have some fractural wound. We can respond depending on the placement of the moon. The Government is outside but there is a connection with the outside and the inside according to the Mayan calendar. We are in a solar cycle and the beginning of a new cycle occurs 21.12.12. A 5125 cycle commences on that day. So we have a duty to surrender ourselves to the needs of the Sun. That day will make a positive change that has to happen on our Planet. It is marked as four suns. This would generate rituals that deliver great respect. Instead of observing the Sun at this time we will go and practice our rituals, us Mayan people. You, who ask these questions, you yourselves have to work for this spiritual balance, the spiritual balance we all need. The cosmos and Mother Earth needs this recalibration. Work inside yourself. Work with your environment. Hold respect and dignity for all and the growth and recognition of our Ancestors.

The Central American Elders have long since held an alliance with the Elders of North and South, of the Aborigines, of the African people and the confederacy of Ancients, Ancient peoples across the globe. We all believe the same thing. Please understand. There was a nefarious system that has created an illusion. The power one has is that one can create whatever one thinks and one can make whatever one wants and whatever one does not want. I must make sure that what I want is good for me. I must take responsibility inside and not look outside to others to create for me. I must be the product of my own creation from within the centre of myself and I must not allow myself to be created from the outside by forces which, if I allow them to be so, will be beyond my control or not self. The Father of the Warriors says “if my children are wrong I myself have failed because I have not guided them well”.

Please understand the power within you to affect the microcosm affects the macrocosm. Do you understand what is being said here? You have the power within you to create the world inside you according to the dictates of your heart, according to the dictates of the one heart which serves all beings and this will surely affect the macrocosm, be it your environment, your family or your Government.

We have long said in our sacred writings …..”when the condor of the South and the eagle of the North fly together, when the two teardrops unite then the warriors of the light will come” …... We consider and we know the world must come to bloom again and that is why we are here. This is why we have travelled so far. We were not self-propelled. We did not just purely follow the dictates of our own heart. We understood and responded to the needs of the One Heart and we were guided to do this work.

Prayer

“To the Mother and Father, mountains of lightning and rain that clear our ideas, cleanses our hearts, direct our paths”.

Question: How can we get over our grieving?

Answer: (given by Fanny Abila, Panama Kuna Firekeeper and Medicine Woman)
Fire and cacao. This lifts our spirits to the Father in the Sun and from the Mother in the Earth. We have many ceremonies with fire and cacao. We use these to defend ourselves and to celebrate, to lift our spirits and to make us bright again, to make our hearts beat and our laughter sing again. The fire is used for healing as an ally. Fire is a useful friend if someone is trying to send you bad energy. To overcome spirits of depression, oppression, grieving, our people use fire and cacao.
