One of the nine witnesses appearing before the Archbishop of Canterbury's Committee investigating Spiritualism in the 1930s was Erich, Baron Palmstierna, the Swedish Diplomat to the Court of St. James in London. In 1933 he and several high ranking officials including two former presidents of the Society for Psychical Research formed a home circle with classical violinist Jolly d'Aranyi as medium. Séances were held regularly over the next six years, and Palmstierna presented the high-level spiritual teachings to the Church's Committee, and published them in his book, ''Horizons of Immortality'' (Howard-McCann, Inc., New York, 1938).
Since the Committee's Report was never published by the Church, and Palmstierna's book has long been out of print, I thought it was timely to bring these teachings back into circulation. This and following articles will review those teachings. Readers who also appreciate classical music can hear some of the expressive performances of Jolly d''Aranyi on YouTube or on collectible records and CDs.
THE FIRST COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE BEYOND
Questions are from various members of the group. Answers come from spirit, through the medium, and Palmstierna's comments are [within square brackets], the editor's (RR, in curved brackets).
Question: Which religion comes nearest the truth ?
Answer: The simplest. You can pray at home, as long as love guides your spirit.
Question: Who are the voices within us ?
Answer Your immortal souls. God dwells in all of us. [What is that Prime Mover, creating and holding the balance of a universe, making the bird soar to mountain heights and man scan the horizon for a distant shore ? We shape an image and call it God, giving many interpretations to the word. But what is the true interpretation ? Do we fall far short in our speculations ? Can those on the other side tender us a safe lead and send light to those of us who grope about amongst shadows ? The conceptions in which we have been fostered are much too narrow and bring to our mind some likeness to man himself. But how can we imagine God a limited individual or give HIM features after our own image ? We are strongly advised in several messages to train ourselves to see it all in a ''MONUMENTAL FASHION'' and to understand that HE cannot be described according to earthly ideas, moulded by the sparse material in man's possession. Our communicators when talking of ''God'' are disposed to speak of ''the Great One'' when informing us about the Source of all things.
[But why have humans made an artificial mystery of the Great One, who never conceals His existence or true nature? We hide God in clothes of our own making and so become alienated from the Origin of our very lives and deprived of the well-being which accompanies the approach to harmony with the Source of all. This strange attitude is contrary to reason, in a spiritual sense, and, we are informed by spirit, is the cause of much trouble on earth. (today, 2014, just look around)]
