Have you ever instinctively held someones hand when you know they need you to? Whether it is a child, an adult, a parent, grandparent or neighbour, the effect is the same. Peace, calm, security, a sense of belonging as we feel connected to each other through touch.
I know that having a hand to hold is one of the most precious things anyone can hope for in life and some of us have more hands to hold than others and sometimes it can feel as if we have too many hands clamouring for our touch.
This is such a natural act that we can do it without question, an unspoken offering of help is given as one person reaches out to comfort another.
This is healing. It is not something that you have to consciously 'do'. There is no summoning up of a greater energy that you have at your disposal, although as energy flows through you, it may feel like this is what you are doing.
By opening yourself up, relaxing, being aware of your own physical state, your emotional condition and your mental awareness you can allow healing energy that we all use every day, to pass through you to the person who needs healing.
This does not make you able to heal. The body you are focusing on, does the healing. If the person you are trying to heal is ready for a recovery, then you will be using your strength and ability to assist them. If the person you are sending healing to is blocking their own recovery, for whatever reason, whether it be mental, physical, emotional or a spiritual purpose for them to be experiencing illness, then they will not recover. It really has little to do with you as a healer whether they recover or not.
If a person has faith in you as their healer and there is an element of trust in the relationship, you know that they will take the energy from you and their body will use it to replenish their own ability to heal. If a person has faith in you as their healer and yet they still do not recover, this is not their failing, nor yours. Life is not full of happy, healthy people and part of experiencing life is to recognise when a person may be very unwell or near death.
Offering healing to people is a wonderful position to be in, especially when the person being healed says they feel better, they can feel the effects of the healing, they are calm, more able to cope with life. Fabulous. When they say they are still tired, they are still in pain and there is nothing you can do, the feeling is not so good. So, for anyone who is planning on using their natural, inborn ability to help other people, please be prepared before you begin, be aware that most improvements take time, healing will happen with or without your help and sometimes the only thing you will be able to do is offer to hold someones hand.
