Maurice Barbanell ( 1902-1981 ) Founder and editor of the weekly Spiritualist newspaper Psychic News, and for fifty years spreading the Spiritualist message of eternal life, not just for the chosen few, but for everyone. He was born to Jewish parents in Londons East End, his Mother a devoutly religous Woman, his Fater an atheist, Maurice became an Agnostic. It was not until later in life that he was invited to a seance. The Medium was a Mrs Blaustein, who was entranced by various spirits, Maurice fell asleep, he awoke and apologised to his fellow sitters for his apparent rudeness. They informed him much to his surprised that he had been in trance and an North American Indian had spoken through him with eloquently spoken words of wisdom. The Spirit Guide was a totaly seperate entity to Maurice, and had his own identity. Popular Fleet Street Journalist of that time Hannen Swaffer, who was a practising Spiritualist encouraged Maurice to publish the Guides teaching in Psychic News. Maurice did not reveal the Guides identity for some years in case people thought that he was trying to promote his own Mediumship. Finally he revealed that the Spirit Guide was named Silver Birch, by this time the Guide had a large following of his own, it was quite apparent that Silver Birch was a seperate person to Maurice, who had his own thoughts and philosophies on a variety of subjects that affected the World and the Human Race, not forgetting the Animal Kingdom. Maurice ran a home circle, every week for many years, Silver Birch would speak and give beautifully spoken words of Wisdom and of Guidance, these teachings were transcribed in shorthand. There are many Silver Birch books available to read, his Teachings mean as much to our World today as they did when they were originaly spoken and written. We have an enormous debt of gratitude for Maurices wonderful gift of mediumship and to his Spirit Guide Silver Birch for bringing his Spirit Teachings to our World.
